The א alep "The First".

The letter א is the first letter of the aleph bet; the Hebrew alphabet. It has a numerical value of 1 as well as 1000. It is silent. All Hebrew letters with the exception of the letter י yod, are composed of other letters. This composition alters the numerical value. In the case of א which is composed of two י each equaling 10 and a ו vav; numerical value of 6 for a total of 26, the same numerical value of יהוה the sacred name of God. The first time we see the א as the root if a word in the Bible is in the Torah at Genesis 1:1 in the word אלהים Elohim meaning God. א is thus a direct representation of God.
